I cannot seem to find any website where anyone has recorded speed or times for gorillas running.
However, they seem to be able to run as fast as we do, if not faster over short distances.
Primate Info Net states:
"Run: Three gaits can be observed: transverse quadrupedal, lateral quadrupedal (gallop) and bipedal. Regardless of the gait; none, only one, or two limbs will be on the ground at a time. Bipedal run is achieved by slightly elevating the torso and lifting the arms during a transverse run. This usually occurs within aggressive display sequences or bouts of play behavior."
There was a recent newspaper article about a gorilla going on a rampage in a Dutch Zoo. It seems that he caught one human at least. Human fleeing speed was not able to be documented of course.
Wiki says, of the mountain gorilla:
"The Mountain Gorilla is primarily terrestrial and quadrupedal. However, it will climb into fruiting trees if the branches can carry its weight, and it is capable of running bipedally up to 6 m (20 ft)."
All in all, I would guess they run a little faster than we do for short bursts.
