pitch to bonds, or walk bonds and pitch to ray Durham.......... hmmmmmmm that's a tough call, Barry has no protection in that lineup and rarely has since going to s.f.. He had Kent for a while then alou to protect him but now, ray Durham? any team that pitches to him in any situation other than if the bases are loaded do not have very good baseball sense or mathematical abilities

Hello Tiny...
If you ask a true baseball fan they will say its because the Giants offense is pretty average and walking Bonds is generally good strategy. Plus at home when he bats the crowd gets louder and if he does hit a home run the place goes nuts so from a momentun standpoint it also makes sense to walk him a lot.
Anyone who says its a race issue is more likely then not just trying to stir stuff up... there might be a few players in baseabll who have racist feelings, but 99% of them would never walk someone unless then felt it helped thier chance of winning.... it goes against every competitive feeling a professional sports player has.
That's my 2 cents!

Because Bonds is a sell out for spitting on Hank Aron's achievement.
BTW- I don't just hate Barry, I think Giambi, McGuwire, Sosa, hell the rest of the Yanks on roids, the Red Sox on roids, and all other players on roids should be banned from baseball.
I mention those two teams because most likely, their locker room is filled with it. Oh and the Cards with, "I don't see nuthin" Tony managing.

i feel this is because they don't feel he is worthy of beating hank aarons record. which i totally agree with he's cheated and thats the bottom line i feel in this situation and why the hell should a cheater be allowed to be recognized for being the greatest at something when they didnt accomplish the feat the proper way. my hats off to hank no matter if bonds breaks the record or not and props to hank for sticking to what he said. by this i mean how he said he will not be showing up to the game/games leading to bonds breaking the record.

Its a sign of how horrible the rest of his team is at hitting. He's the only real threat they have so why give him a chance to hurt you?? As long as there is a free base I'll take my chances with Ray Durham and give Barry a free pass.

Because he's still a threat to hit home runs. It's standard strategy. If chances are better of getting an out with the next hitter, you go for it.

It has nothing to do with the steroids allegations or them not wanting him to break Aaron's record. They've been walking him intentionally for years (especially after he hit 73). Figure it's much safer with him on base where he can't do as much damage as it is with him at the plate.

Because even at his age, he is still a threat to beat a team with one swing of the bat. It is much safer to walk him, and let someone else try and drive him in.

I think they figure the odds are he's more likely to cross home plate from home plate than from first base. Kinda sucks, like hack-a-Shaq for baseball. They should have to give them two bases for an intentional walk.
