it is very tall, app. 4-6 feet tall. has a very thick stem and it has leaves that resembles marijuana leaves, but the underside of the leaf is purple. toward the end of spring it blooms 1 beautiful red flower on the top of the stem.

i can't mainly because it's only a couple inches tall and there are no leaves on it now and no flower... i do know that it is a perenial...last year i only had 2 and this year they have came back and i have 7 plants total... they survive very well in the sun and they are planted in very poor rocky soil and are drought tolerate....

it has one single flower that blooms on the top and when it dies the whole plant dies...

It is hard to say but I agree your description sounds just like a castor bean plant (if it looks somewhat like a small tree). If this is the case, they are very pretty but the seeds can be deadly to animals and humans so make sure to remove & destroy the seed pods before they mature.
These pop up where I live, in central Texas.

there are a lot of possibilities but it could be a castor bean plant. is the flower single or a cluster of flowers.
