Dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO), is a scientific name for water that is relatively unknown to most of the public, used in hoaxes that illustrate how the lack of scientific knowledge and an exaggerated analysis can lead to misplaced fears.

If you really want to get some people worked up, try this site:
http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html
It lists all the "Dangers" of DHMO.
Lol, see how many people you can get to freak out and sign your petition.

I would. I was actually thinking about printing about 50 flyers listing the possible dangers of Dihydrogen Monoxide and handing them out to the people that shop at Whole Foods. See if I make the evening news.

The site I linked below has some nice (funny) attributes of DHMO.

You could use one of its other names. Many people now recognise dihydrogen monoxide.
Try:
Hydro-oxic acid
Hydrogen hydroxide
etc.

I think your survey idea is a great one as long as it was a blind survey. That way your data could be shared with all and peoples feelings would not be hurt.
