If you are in India, then check with the local law colleges for their requirements, they change, from time to time.
When I went to school (SSC in 1958), you had 2 choices.
1. Get a bachelor of, Art, Science, Engineering or commerce, then go to two years of law school, Bombay had choice of two law schools.
a, Government law school near Church Gate W.R. Train station.
b, Government law school near near Matunga W.R. Train Station(In Ruparel College Building).
Both were morning schools.
2. Complete an Intermediate level(Sophomore year), and then go to three years of law school, Bombay had choice of same two law schools.
Non of them had any entrance exams and enrolment was on first come first served basis, but to an extent unlimited.
You had an annual exams each year, Preliminary-Law(3 year student only), 1St year law, and Final law (few details are left out).
After LLB, you can do LLM, and then JD (this is maily for law proffessors).
Or go for bar licence, this means you need a law firm to let you do articles(practical training). Then you need to give Bar exam and become a Balister, Solicitor or a Trail lawyer.
At that time Bombay had some 13 colleges or so, to day it may have 100 colleges or more, and few more law colleges amongst them.
I think they also have entrance exam, so do some checking, in your local area, best thing is to talk to a lawyer in your area, or your family lawyer. See if the lawyer can mentor (Guide you).
Hit:
As rule lawyers specialise in various law or have general practice.
Example:
Labour Laws
Matrimonial Law,(Hindu Law, Parsi Law, Muslim Law, sub Cast Law within the Hindu Law)
Commercial Law
Criminal Law
Iternational Law
Petant and copy write Law ( Iteligent Property law)
Indian Penal code.
This above should answer the Q? about the group like Commerce , or Engineering or Science or Liberal Arts(Political science , Enconomic, Ecology).
Frank G, may be right but most lawyers have law degree and good law firm will not take non law degree people as interns, so check all the angels and do the things that fit your life style and pocket book very good.

I don't know which group but I do have some info. You only have to pass the state bar exam to become a lawyer. I know it sounds crazy but it's the truth. You don't even need a 8th grade deploma. If your intrested in the law I'd suggest interning for a lawyer and taking basic law classes. The lawyer will guide you and they love free help. The law is mostly researching case law and thats alot of work.
