The 10% is to allow for any error in YOUR speedo.. not the camera, the camera is 100% accurate .. you could be doing 30mph (on your speedo) but your true speed could be 10% more.. or 33mph that is what the 10% error margin is for on the camera.. so if you are doing any more than 32 on your speedo when you go through you'll get done..

Of course your speedo could be 10% out the other way, and when you are doing 30mph (on your speedo) you could actually be doing 10% less, or 27mph, which means you could afford to go about 7mph faster than you speedo is showing - about 37mph and not get flashed.. are you feeling lucky?

Legally the minimum is speed limit plus 10% plus 3 to allow for speedometer variation depending on type of wheels, tyre pressure etc.

So in a 30 zone the trigger would be 36, in a 50 it would be 58, and on a motorway it would be 80. In the UK unless you live in N Wales or Staffordshire you *usually* wouldn't get pulled over on a motorway below 85mph if the conditions are clear and dry.

If you do 36 in a 30 limit you will get flashed, 35 in a 30 will probably give you one flash, for a 50 you get flashed at 58 :(

Like Peter G says, some Chief Constables ignore what are, after all, only guidelines - not rules. North Wales comes to mind, no leeway at all. So don't rely on it!

Speedos, by the way, are allowed to be up to 10% out but they may ONLY over read. So it's possible that if your speedo reads 30mph, you may only be doing 27-ish. Again, don't rely on it, yours might be one that's accurate.

In the netherlands my hubby got caught and fined going 124 km in a 120km limit. not worth going over the speed limit. Speed cameras are only going to become more proliferent!

they test those bad boys pretty regularly, go at or slightly below the proper speed whenever you see a camera.

This can sometimes cause a pile up behind you as you hit the anchors but at least you only have to slow down for a little bit before throttling back up to Mach 2.

Don't count on any % margin. Some police authorities want 30 to mean 30

Terry t got it right - the cameras are accurate, your speedometer may not be.
Only way to be sure........keep to the speed limit as shown on your speedometer!

Kill all the speed cameras. all they do is collect revenue for a coppers ball.
