It makes the person feel superior or powerful when in fact, it's a serious sign of weakness and a character flaw.

our world is one of balance. though there are those who kick ones who have fallen, there are some who extend a helping hand to them, and that's the kind of person I am.

Because many people are cowards. It is easy to attack someone who is wounded, the last thing a coward will do is step up to a challenge. They will be passive agressive and attack from the shadows with the grace of a rhino.

I guess it goes back to survival of the fittest. That behavior is seen in the animal kingdom. Birds will peck a sick or weak member of the flock to death. It is sad to think that humans haven't evolved further.

I honestly have no idea...maybe it makes them feel more secure, because they know the fallen are too tired to stand up and fight and so its an easy victory for them...?

Because deep inside they're in pain and cannot explain or even get it out in a civilized manner. They don't like themselves, so when they see something they identify with, they act irrationaly, as it is themselves they see.
