Jerry Porter did something that upset Art Shell. Shell was stubborn enough and stupid enough to not allow Porter on the field all the while he watched as his quarterbacks were begging for the offensive line to hold long enough to allow them to complete a pass. Art Shell did not even realize that by holding back Porter he was losing his own job. What did he think, Al Davis was going to give him three seasons to get to 7-9. Good Bye Art. You have to remember this too, Jerry Porter was always a talented wide out and a good team player. He lined up as the number three receiver while he watched Tim Brown and eventually Jerry Rice dominate the Raider offense... then when those great legends did finally move on or retire, what does Oakland do? Do they make Jerry Porter the featured receiver? Hell no, they went out and signed Randy Moss... that would piss anyone off. Man I hope we can bounce back from it this year!

In short, The Raiders got Moss, and Art Shell. He didnt feel like he was going to be used like he wanted to and pitched a fit, and didnt show up in training camp( he said he was hurt) It soured any chance that he and Shell had, Brookes didn't work out, and things got worse, and he ask to get out of Oakland, so Shell ended his year, I not sure if he even played last year.

yes he was cause one he didnt wanna follow the standards that coach shell laid out for them.... but it wasnt his fault i blame randy moss... he started the whole this team is bad and i dont wanna play for them attitude.. so what else was porter to do? follow in moss' steps and do the same thing... but now that moss is in new england with a super bowl winning qb how will this work out for porter... only porter himself knows that answer.

"Because he's black" - that's the most pitiful answer I've ever heard. If the Raiders owners were racist, why are they only one of a small handful or teams who have a black head coach, and why did they just choose JaMarcus Russell to be their QB for years to come?

for dissing Art Shell. he wasn't putting out effort in practice and was demoted to the 5 th wide receiver then after another run in with shell at practice was inactive for most of the season

Officially, it was for violation of team rules. Realistically, it was because the coach didn't like him.
