JUST BECAUSE YOUR WIFE IS BREASTFEEDING DOES NOT MEAN THAT SHE CANNOT GET PREGNANT!!!!!!! Breastfeeding requires hormones that can mess with a woman's period. Mine was all over the place for about 5 months after giving birth. It didn't start for the first 3 months then was sporatic after that. Eventually it became regular again. Just don't assume that you can have protection free sex! You should call a nurse help line or the doc if you're getting really concerned. A 24 hour nurse helpline is incredibly handy for questions such as this and especially with kids. All kinds of odd things happen once you venture into parenthood. Good luck and ask your healthcare provider if they have a nurse help line.

It can be normal if she's breastfeeding. Her period may pick up again any time. This could last the entire time she breatfeeds or it might not. Hormones do crazy things to a woman's body. Be careful, just because she's not having periods does not mean she's not ovulating. She could be pregnant, so check it out.

When her periods do return, they probably will be a little different than what she had before she was pregnant. They could be lighter or heavier or just more painful. They could be longer or shorter, or any number of things. They also might not come in regular intervals for a while. Her body will have to readjust to it, so you might see some changes--or they might be like they were before.

Sometimes there will be no period if the mother is nursing the baby ( she CAN possibly still get pregnant even if she has no period yet ) But not all women are the same. For the health and well being of your wife and family, please have her talk to a respected doctor to make sure everything is okay. That is so much better than worrying ... You are a good husband for being concerned...

Nursing will delay it. But not always. I nursed all my kids over 6 months and I got my period back at 6 months with baby #1, at 14 months with baby #2, and at 9 months with baby #3. It's totally different with every pregnancy. There is no normal time. What's the rush? It's painful to have a period! I wanted mine to stay gone as long as possible!!

yes it is very normal for her not to have her period yet, especially when breast feeding. With my first son I started my period after I had him when he was 7 months old, he was breast feed, with my second baby who was a preemie, was sooner than 7 months but I didn't get to breast feed him, with my last son who I also breast fed, it took me a whole year to start, in fact I started on my babies first birthday. If you are worried then I would call her Dr. I hope this information was helpful. Remember that it takes a women any where from 6 months to a year for her body to be normal again after giving birth. P.S. She can get pregnant if she is breast feeding, I know it has happened to me and other friends of mine, she could be pregnant.

It is not a problem at all. If she is breastfeeding (esp. if exclusively) then she might not get her periods. With everybody it is different. I didnt get my periods until my child was 1 years old. It was a great relief as that gave me the flexibility to be dedicated to the child. My gyn said it was totally normal. When my child started eating full solids like roti, subzi, rice then the need for my milk reduced and therefore automatically I got my periods.
For my friends who fed formula and breast milk they got their periods pretty quickly.

However, I would advice you to not consider this as a contraceptive-free time. Your wife can still be ovulating therefore be careful with all the precautions.

Five months isn't all that long to go without having a period after giving birth. If a woman is nursing, she could go without periods til after she stops. But every woman is different. I started my period while exclusively nursing my son til 18 months... at 5 months post partum.

Don't be concerned. It takes a while for a post-pregnancy body to "readjust" itself. Congratulations on the birth of your little one!

If your wife is breastfeeding then she won't start her period until after she stops. Child birth does wonderful things for messing up the normal cycle...Just give it time. If she's concerned about it and not breastfeeding she should talk to her doctor.

First of all congratulations, I have three of my own. If your wife is breast feeding it is quite normal for her periods to be absent until she stops. However if she is not breast feeding it could mean that she is pregnant again or that she has a hormone imbalance since giving birth. Goodluck.
