It depends. Hopefully he was in a car seat. Does this mean you've seen a doctor and been given a diagnosis of a liver laceration? Has he had surgery to repair it? In cases where a child has an injury of this sort, it's usually reported to child protection services.

I am sorry to hear of the situation but there is good news that the liver is a regenerating masterpiece. The answer to your question is yes it could have happened from the slamming of the breaks and the position of the restraints in the car seat. My sister lost half her intestine due to laceration caused by her seat belt which was riding her abdomen instead of her pelvis where is should have been.

Why do you think that your son's liver is lacerated? A laceration is a cut. You son should have been in an infant seat and his back should have been facing the front of the car.

If you have any concerns, you need to take your son in to see a doctor.

Yes, that could have caused it. That is why it is always advisable to be seen by a doctor after a car accident. In this case, even though you didn't hit anything, the inertia was obviously enough to engage the restraints. At 15mos, he is still very fragile. Just imagine what would have happened to him had he not been in a car seat!!

Yes, people get injured from seatbelts and airbags, but the ratio of lives saved to injuries incurred is so disproportionate that not wearing a seatbelt is just plain stupid.

I truly hope that your son recovers quickly. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

First your baby should have had been protected on a car seat? right.......Babies are not like grown ups, they're bones are not strong and are mostly like gelatin all inside together, so if something really hit your baby, something really solid that caused that laceration, or something that pressed him together like holding a tomato and pressing really hard until it opens, so if I were you I will make sure your baby is check, any thing open inside like liver, lungs or kidneys are so dangerous at any age and the consecuences of this are paid for life..........Sorry to hear that and good luck with your son you have my blessings.........
