I have an Axolotl that will not eat at the moment and is getting quite thin. Any suggestions please?

I do have the special pellets which it used to eat but will not take now, and it will not eat fresh (or frozen)met.

Check his water temperature. It's getting warm now, and they don't do well if the water temperature gets too high. Ideally, they should be kept around 65o.

If you haven't done a water change recently, try changing out 25% of his water for fresh. These guys are stressed by too much ammonia and nitrite the same as fish: http://www.axolotl.org/requirements.htm

It's possible that he may have inteernal parasites, which would be another reason for the thinness. See the bottom of this page for suggested medications, and those you shouldn't use: http://www.axolotl.org/health.htm

I'm guessing that with the onset of summer, the tank temperature may have gotten too high for your axolotl. A high temperature will originate with an increase metabolism and higher food intake and lead to stress and a refusal to eat.

I am having exactly the same problem. The other day at my wits end I made my husband go into the garden and dig me up some worms. He ate them but hasn't eaten since!!! How do you feed the pellets to it???? I have pellets and he has never attempted to touch them.

His temperature of his water might be to high. Make sure he is not in a hot area. Also, try giving him small fish (guppies,comets) or blood worms. They tend to like live foods better. Sometimes they cant catch the fish. I used to use chopsticks and hold the fish with it and put it in front of my bisg salamanders mouths cus they were to slow. (haha) It worked tho. eveytime he saw the chopsticks he would get excited. Anyhoo, hope things work out.
