It's a real law but not in the sense they were using it. The law states that you can't be sued if you're helping a person and result in an injury to them.
Example if I'm in a burning car and the man who saves me pulls me out in a way that results in me becoming paralized I can't sue him.

The Massachusetts Good Samaritan laws are basically there to protect those who render aid, whether they're trained professionals or ordinary citizens who have prior training in CPR or first aid (such as the Red Cross courses available). The protection is from acts or omissions that are not wantonly negligent. It does not pertain to the situation the Seinfeld characters go through.

FYI: Wikipedia is NOT a reasourceful site. You can't use that on citations. It is a free web site where ANYONE can post info on there, therefore, letting the public believe what they want. For isntance, it said a week ago that based on fast nationals, Daddy Day Care brought in 135 million viewers on Fox. Two things wrong: There aren't even 135 million households (tv's) in the US, only 127, and number two: It brought in 4 million, not 135.

Yes that was a real law. We may have taken some liberties with it to make the show, but it's based on reality.

It's not a real law, and the last episode was really bad for such a great show. Unless your job requires it (i.e. police officer, paramedic) you cannot be held liable for taking no action.

It is a law made up for the sake of a TV show.
