We have to get off the internet, and there's no way in hell I'm doing that just to throw away a perfectly good TV.

Between school and parents children should be being encouraged to read. The insanity that rules our streets, I think, is the primary reason children stay home...where the idiot box becomes an escape, and also a safe place to view the madness.

Idiots are the ones in front of the TV. Television programming is designed to appeal to idiots, so are most commercials. Most really stupid shows keep really stupid people riveted to the TV. They pass this passion on to their children. If you don't agree with this activity, start pointing out to your kids really stupid content on TV and involve them in activities that are different, like reading.
Lead with example!
P.S. some TV programs are really worth watching, but you have to be selective and scour the programming guide ahead of time.

It's a way to escape from the stresses and pressure of everyday life except it's the TV with all the commercials that adds more pressure promoting a lifestyle that just can be so unattainable for many.

Well, if leading is by example, I am teaching mine to exchange THAT idiot box for this one.

We don't fight over the remote in our house. It is Y!A vs. Nicktropolis.

I have to be careful if I leave the room, though, because he has gotten on here and asked and answered (as intelligently as any Lib, I might add).

Parenting....bad parenting, simple as that. Why raise your children when you can just throw them in front of a T.V. and let it watch them for you. Parental involvement is the only way encourage your kids, teach them young.

What about the computers, they stay, right? I do everything I need to do in a day on a pc(except eat, but one day), who needs tv's? And what about cell phones? They ever gonna put those devices away? The days of too much telly are long gone.

What about the History Channel, or Discovery Channel, or the Military Channel? Or Animal Planet and other educational programming? Last I checked, they were educational.
