try getting some jewelry safe lubricant type stuff. use lotion or even cooking oil, just make sure to clean it afterwords. and a tip: focus on one chain at a time, pick an end, and start unraveling. use two needles or safetly pin points to pick the tough, tiny knots.

OK, first make sure you have a nice empty space to work in and lots of light. You might choose to have a pair of tweezers and/or a sewing needle to assist you. Take the "knotted mass" and see if you can gently loosen it up. You could even shake it lightly to open up space.

Don't put anything on the necklaces to try and "lubricate" them unless you are POSITIVE that there will not be any chemical reactions between the "lubricant" and each of the metals represented (as well as any combination thereof). It would be tragic if you were to put something like olive oil on them only to have the bronze react with the silver and leave permanant green stains on everything.

Remember: NEVER pull on ANYTHING when you are trying to untie a knot. It will just make the knot tighter or it could even break the necklace chain.

Now, take a deep breath and choose a single necklace to work on freeing. Follow it with your fingers and untwist it as you can. Ignore all the others except for how to free the one you are working on from them. If it has a clasp, it might come free easier if the clasp is undone. Once the necklace is free, place it in an individual bag (a plastic zipper "crafts storage" bag that you can buy at a craft store or even a sandwich bag) so that it won't be able to get tangled up again, and start on the next.

Keep your breathing steady and deep, to help you from getting frustrated with the mess. It will be tedious, but if you persevere, you WILL get all the necklaces untangled. If I could, I would do it for you. =[

Knotted Chain Necklace

I found that the best way is to use a sewing needle!~ Lay the necklaces down on a surface that is flat. Start by putting the tip of the needle in a knot that is closest to the end. Carefully work the needle in the knot. Eventually it will loosen up and you can pull the knot out. Work your way through the knots. You may have to work on different ends till you work your way through these......Hope you get it figured out!

This was one of my jobs when I was a jewellery apprentice!
Gently but firmly roll them to and fro between your hands. You will find that they will start to unravel a bit and you can pick them apart easier. If there is a knot in them that you can't undo, again, roll in between your hands, it will loosen the knot enough to get a pin in it and open it up, even in a very fine chain. It will take some patience, but it does work! I once had to unravel 500 chains which were in a ball! Just keep rollimg!

Use baby oil and a needle and start working at a slow pace to undo the knots.

Lay them down on a table and use a needle to pick apart the knots. If you hold them up, gravity will cause the knots to tighten and will make your job more difficult.

a method that I was told many years ago but have never tried it is to put all of the tangle into a plastic bowl, and gently swirl them around, I was told this would loosen the knots and maybe even untie them.

you will just have to simply pick on it till you get something to come out of the mess, it will take a lot of time and patience.
