I think a good place to look is the Family Christian Bookstore. I did a search on some good books for around that age for little girls- I came up with this....

the ramona books are cute, but are kinda for girls only...
the series of unfortunate events are nice too for both girls and boys.
other series include nancy drew (mysteries for girls) or the hardy boys (mysteries for boys)
