The system has to be recharged using an air conditioning recycling and charging station to evacuate all of the moisture from the system by pulling a vacuum then introducing the new refrigerant and oil charge to the system. If you don't remove the moisture from the system before charging you could cause the system to rust from the inside out, seals can fail prematurely and there's a chance you'll ruin the new compressor as well.

The refrigerant oil(PAG) is mixed with the refrigerant during recharging and is added to the system at the same time. You can change the compressor and receiver/dryer yourself but you'll have to take it to an air conditioning shop or dealer to have it evacuated and recharged. Most shops advertise a summer a/c recharge special for about $100 for R-134a. Save the money on the parts and installation; spend the money to have the system evacuated and recharged with the right equipment and you won't regret it.

hope that answers your question

It has to be forced in under pressure. If you don't know, don't try it.
