In what I assume was a flash forward, Jack is obviously intoxicated while he steals those pills and the new chief resident asks to speak with him, Jack says something along the lines of, " If you go upstairs and my father is more drunk than I am then fire me." I thought Jack's father was dead...? Was he just talking nonsense because he was drunk or what?

It was a flashforward. Did you hear Jack say to Kate, "I've been flying a lot with the Gold Passes THEY gave US." Refering to a compensation Oceanic must have given the survivors.

Maybe. But I don't know if that was really a flash forward. It may have just been Jack imagining what life would be like when they got home. I think he is afraid that he will be just like his father.

If it was a flash forward, wouldn't Kate be in prison? I don't remember Kate ever telling Jack she was a fugitive. So if it is Jack's imagination, that would explain why Kate is free at the end of the flash.

I caught that too. His father is supposedly dead, that's why Jack went to Australia to take care of his father's body. Just more questions, in questions. I love Lost!

He was totally drunk because the other Dr. gave him a wierd look, as if Jack was crazy. Yes it was a flash forward.

That's why it's called a cliff hanger. It wants you to ask these questions. Maybe he's brought back in the box. Maybe it's a dream. Maybe it's why Locke tries to stop them. Maybe he's being dramatic. He didn't deal with his father's death while on the island. So now he's dealing with being back and his father's death.

I was thinking the very same thing! I remember his father being dead like in the very first show, him finding the coffin after the plane crashed,,,, and he kept seeing his father, when it wasn't actually him, just that "spirit" or whatever that thing is on that island. So maybe in his drunkeness, he was just talking out of his head.

He was duped. The father could still be alive. Lost likes to mess with people.

He is dead.

Notice the 'wtf' look on the doctors face as Jack mentions his father. and the reaction Jack had when the pharmacist wanted to verify the prescription.
