o yea....it wont exactly "speed it up" but it'll help the perfomance a lot...so basically it wont freeze when having soo many programs are open and everything runs smoother...i don't think ram will speed up your downloads for torrents..you have 2 open certain ports for torrents for them 2 dl faster...it also depends on wat type of ram u need...laptop? comp? ddr1? ddr2? for a gig, ur usually looking around 60-100 buks mayb

300 MB of ram is not much. While you haven't provided enough info for me to say with 100% certainty that it will speed up your computer... The odds of it helping are greatly in your favor. And since ram is cheap. I would highly recommend it. "Other factors" can always cause your computer to run slower. Adding more ram will not correct whatever the "other factors" maybe. But adding ram will not hurt or slow down your machine. Just be sure that you have an open slot to stick an extra memory chip into. You'll also need to know the speed and the largest capacity chip that the slot supports. Once you have that and about $30-$40 bucks (quite possibly less) you'll be good to go.

depends on your computer , its vintage and what the slowest , limiting componet is.
Ram almost always helps.
If you have a slower , older harddrive with no or a small buffer a newer 7200 rpm drive with a 8 or 16 mb buffer will help.
You can do the standard tweaks wih tweak xp
Do spyware scans. Spwyare can slow your internet connection to 10 % of its capacity limiting your upload and download speeds. Do the spyware updates
adaware and spybot are both good starts .
You may have to play around with your ports - what ports you use in the torrent client program you use
also some isps are now blocking common torrent client program ports - change the ports , some say 65535 ( at the end is best)
Lastly you can read up on bittorent technology.
With bittorent you are forced to share ( upload).
Your download speeds to a degree are related to your upload.
ISP limit upload speeds ( they are generally 10 % of download speeds). However uploads sap your bandwidth something dramatic.
In the end you play around with the limits on your upload speed max in the bittorent client ( azarues , bitlord or whatever you use)
Lastly again - if you are on a cable broadband it is a shared service and slows during peak times. You can download during the offpeak whenever that is in your area
- you can always upgrade your broadband speed to a higher grade- especially if you are on a "lite package".
The isps are deceptive and keep changing names to confuse peple so they buy a high speed :"lite " package and pay almost the same for very little internet bandwidth. Poor value for the consumer.

Generally yes for computer's performance.
However Torrent and Limewire will usually not be affected by the speed of the computer but the speed of your network and the connection to the internet. Unless you have 10megabit per second both ways (download and upload speed) or faster connection to the internet your limitation of performance with these services will be the network connection and generally not the speed of the computer.

Ram will speed up your computer but it won't speed up your downloads. Those downloads have many different variables that effect the rate of which data is passed. What speed connection do you have what speed connection does the host have. Data can only travel as fast as the slowest connection. how many other users are trying to download the same thing eating up band with to the host. What is the host doing. is he/she downloading as well taking up more of their band with. So until the Internet gets a major speed upgrade just sit back start your downloads at night and over work and hope for the best.

Yes, more RAM will help speed up your computer, but any amount of RAM can become overloaded and seriously slow down your computer. Try to observe these tips:
Some helpful hints to avoid common mistakes:
- Wallpaper and/or a screensaver full of graphics. They run in the background and consume memory. (I have only 512mb RAM, run multiple programs simultaneously, and have set my wallpaper and screensaver to blank.)
I don’t do games, but I do know they are primarily graphics which need and use a lot of memory.
- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
then cl Remove.
There is also a “Disable All” button.
This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.
When you are working in a large file, save frequently to restore full memory access. (Your work remains in memory until you “save” it to disk.)
Did you run an error check? Open My Computer,
Right-cl on C:, Select Properties, Tools – Run an Error Check ( checkmark “check all and fix); then run a Defrag
Are you using Yahoo Toolbar? Run a full Norton Antispy.
From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k.
click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup
click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)
All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. If this doesn’t help, you should consider getting more memory.

You download speed is mostly determined by the speed of the incoming data stream.
Unless your hardware is pathetic, the limiting factor is the data link. (Cable Modem, DSL, etc.)
The only way that memory would help is if you are maxing out the memory when you are downloading. Use the task manger to check and find out about cpu and memory usage to see if you even have a hardware issue at all.

No, not for what you want. There is no software that will speed up your computer. RAM lets the computer do more tasks at once. For internet downloads, you need a faster internet connection like DSL, Cable, or FiOS. [order goes slowest to fastest].
Extra RAM will speed up your computer, but it will NOT speed up downloads.
BTW downloading is bad.

It wont speed up downloads, only how many programs you can open at one time before virtual memory makes it really slowed down. For downloads I would recommend getting a different torrent program like 'utorrent' and limwire PRO. Test your broadband speed at dslreports.
