Did Charlie seriously die? We thought Echo, Locke and Desmond died last year. Charlie could still come to his senses and swim out the hole or open the door. They may have left it like that so he can still negotioate a contract. There may be a vent in that ceiling...it's not over.
Heck, we thought Walt was off the island!

I was thinking the same thing. But, to be fair, he would never have been able to close the door behind him because of the pressure from the water (still you would think he and Desmond could have escaped). Ultimately, Charlie accepted his "fate" as foretold by Desmond ,and died a hero.
Are you talking about Naomi, the girl that Locke killed? I can't believe that Locke is going to be made into a bad guy by the shows creators, so I have to think that, next season, somehow Locke will be able to convince his former friends that he did the right thing. What was interesting to me is that the Others didn't kill anyone (besides Mikail who killed his own people), as opposed to the Losties, who killed a dozen people.

I think the pressure of the water running into the room Charlie was in would have prevented him from closing the door. If he had opened it and tried to escape, he would have killed Desmond, too. And he wouldn't have been able to let Desmond know that there was something fishy with what Naomi said about her boat. By dying and saving Desmond, Charlie will give Claire and Aaron and everyone else a chance they wouldn't have had. Maybe knowing the truth about Naomi will help to save them all. I'm sure that was what he intended.

The lock was on the inside. If he had left the room, he wouldn't have been able to lock it. I think he and Des could have swam out before it all flooded, but I think all Charlie was thinking about was saving Claire and Aaron. He was told that he has to die for them to be rescued and it was his destiny, so that's what he made happen.

Naomi is from the helicopter from the freighter. I believe Charlie died as a hero too. Desmond knew he was going to die, Charlie knew he was going to die. Desmond hadn't had any new flashbacks, Charlie asked him at the end too. So that meant that this really was the end for Charlie.
Well Naomi wasn't being truthful to them at all, if you listened to what Ben and Penny had to say. So I think Locke killed her for the right reasons, but unfortunately Jack didn't listen to Locke.

I agree with whrldpz...i think that charlie and desmond could just have gone back out the way they came in, or that charlie could have closed the airlock door. But charlie knew that he had to die or he would change fate, and claire and the baby would not be rescued. He loves them enough to die for them.

I think since Desmond revealed his vision to Charlie that if he died, a helicopter would come and save Claire and the baby, Charlie believed he had no choice. If he jumped out of the signal room it would have altered the future some way. He loved Claire so much that he would die for them to go home safely.

desmond told charlie that in his vision he saw him stopping a yellow flashing light and dying. also he saw claire getting rescued by a helicopter. charlie had to die in order for things to go as planned. since charlie really cares about claire and the baby he finally let fate take its course.
and what new girl are you talking about?

I asked my friends the same question but they pointed out to me that Charlie knew that if he died Claire would get on the helocopter. If he didn't die then fate would find a way to keep everyone from being rescued... I'm not sure if I agree but it makes sence...

The girl was from the helicopter. It's a shame she died and even worse that John killed her.
Charlie didn't just get ouf of that room because he didn't sign a contract for next season (lol). Seriously, I think he just faced his fate and went out as a hero. If you noticed, the theme of this finale was heroic behavior and being a true hero.
