Here is a good description I found:
Round Ligament Pain in Pregnancy
by Lisa Rodriguez, R.N. and Marjorie Greenfield, M.D.
Many pregnant women describe round ligament pain as a pulling or sharp pain in either side of the lower abdomen. It most commonly occurs in the middle of the pregnancy. The most typical causes of round ligament pain are activities such as standing quickly from a sitting position, turning your body suddenly, rolling over in bed, or coughing. What you are probably feeling is spasms in the muscular ligaments supporting the uterus. Fortunately, this discomfort is of no real medical significance; it is just another one of those nagging aches and pains of pregnancy.
To help relieve round ligament pain, you can rest for short periods. Sometimes lying on the side that hurts can relieve the pain. You can also try to anticipate the activities that cause the discomfort and approach them more slowly.

It is the ligaments that are located around/near your uterus and stomach area...they connect to your joints in your upper leg I believe and when your pregnant your ligaments soften up stretching out so you can sometimes get twinging pains in your upper leg areas or your lower stomach area...sorry it's been a while since I was pregnant but I didn't get these sort of pains till I was further along and my belly starting growing lots putting more pressure on the lower half of the body.

the round ligaments anchor your uterus, they're on the far sides. As your belly grows, these ligaments stretch. Laughing and sneezing tend to give them an extra yank. It's normal. It doesn't hurt the entire time, and you'll instinctively learn to lean forward or hold your belly every time you laugh or sneeze.
Congratulations BTW.

its pain in your lower abdomen more towards the sides, you get it from your uterus stretching. don't worry its not that bad when it happens take some Tylenol and a nice relaxing bath and drink lots of water you will be fine. have a healthy and happy pregnancy and birth. oh and you should get the epidural just in case you wanted to know.

It's a stretching you will feel on your belly, especially on the sides. It doesn't hurt that much, it's nothing to worry about.
