MINEOLA, N.Y. - A millionaire couple were arrested on federal charges that they kept two Indonesian women as slaves in their swank Long Island home for more than five years, beating and abusing them and paying them almost nothing.
The homeowners, Varsha Mahender Sabhnani, 35, and her husband, Mahender Murlidhar Sabhnani, 51, entered not guilty pleas Tuesday at their arraignment in U.S. District Court in Central Islip and were ordered held pending a Thursday bail hearing.
Prosecutors said the women had scalding water thrown on them and were forced to repeatedly climb up and down stairs and take as many as 30 showers in three hours — all as punishment for perceived misdeeds. In one case, prosecutors said, one woman was forced to eat 25 hot chili peppers at a time.

@Angel-yea those were my thoughts too sis. I can't believe we still have people that act so inhumanely in this day in age. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though, there are a lot of sick and evil people in this world.

@politicallyours-Negro is an outdated term that isn't used anymore, Black or African American would be respectful and appropriate, thanks. And yes, I think most people realize that sick people still are in this world and crazy stuff like this still goes on, more often then not. It doesn't make it any less appauling or disgusting when we hear about it though.

Disgusting people. How can they hurt another human being like that?. Now, we should check see why they're so wealthy. Perhaps they robbed someone for all the money they have.

People need to wake up, even though it's not 1852 with the horrors of negro slavery, this kind of thing still goes on, especially with illegal sex and human trafficking, where the enslaved prostitutes are killed or beaten if they try to escape, often these people are only children who have barely reached puberty.
It's sick and disgusting, always has been.

*they need to be put behind bars and the poor victims need a lot of support and help from that horrible experience
