Why does American media rarely if ever report the serious human rights abuses committed by Israel?

urbanbulldog - you are inferring things and implying things not in the question which is about American media and its role in covering (or not covering) Israeli human rights abuses.

Actually, the media isn't owned by Jews. Not all of it. However:

a) A lot of news agencies are headquartered in Jerusalem, claimed by Israel, and local staff tend to be Israelis. Some have been known to filter reports received from Arab reporters in the occupied territories, thus accounts of Israeli human rights abuses are attenuated or even discarded.

b) Israel is a western country and a substantial part of their population came from English-speaking countries. Additionally, they have plenty of funds to put into propaganda - they study the field intently. As such they are better able to develop relations with and place news stories (written by the Israeli Ministry of Information) with understaffed and cost-cutting news agencies. They are always ready to claim any death of a Palestinian was an accident, even as they use snipers to kill peaceful protesters, mortar beaches full of families, or use bulldozers to kill innocent human beings by burying them alive in the rubble of their homes.

c) To a certain extent, Americans identify with Israel (this may be due to Israeli propaganda too), but anyway, it's perceived as a western democracy like ours. So they are reluctant to believe anything bad about it.

d) On the reverse side, there's a lot of racism against Arabs and Muslims - its quite evident in TV shows and movies where Arabs are depicted as sword-waving, violent fanatics - well, I can think of a thousand examples but anyway, it makes it easier to believe it when Palestinians commit human rights abuses.

e) The bigger story of the ethnic cleansing that Israel is committing against the Palestinians in those parts of the occupied territories claimed by them tends not to make the news because they're using all kinds means that don't directly kill - preventing people from getting medical care, surrounding people with locked fences so that they can't get to work or school, ordering them off or locking them off their land, destroying their farmland, denying them water, and allowing pogroms against Palestinians by settlers. This kind of slow-moving but relentless human rights abuse is too complicated, I guess, to make the news.

You raise an interesting point. Many Americans now days are lazy, and will never bother to look beyond home news sources. If Americans were to research what's actually going on in the world, I think that we'd be very surprised.

And, media doesn't show any of the this because of propoganda. America is allies with Israel, so our media doesn't want to show our friend in a bad-light. Or, so to speak. That's my input on it.

So, the israelis should be condemned becuase more palistinians died than Israelis did?

We should ignore the fact that the palistinians almost never target military targets and almost always target civilians?

We should ignore the fact that the reason so many palistinians die is becuase the palistinians fighters hide behind those civilians in order to gain sympathy?

Your logic says that the intentions ar meaningless, only the results are meaningful. you are saying that the palistinians are inncocent becuase even though they are trying to kill every jew in israel, they have failed and are therefore not guilty.

your logic says that Israel should be condemned because some civilians have been killed even though the Israeling army has done everything it could to minimize those casualties.

Think about it, if Israel acted the same way as the palistinians, all the palistinians would jhave been killed years ago, there would be non left today
