B. Parathormone causes the levels of calcium in the blood to be raised. It works antagonistically with calcitonin, secreted from the thyroid. Thus, the answer is B, "regulate the amount of calcium in the blood", and not D, because to increase the excretion of calcium by the kidneys is to lower the levels of calcium in the blood, which is the job of calcitonin.
