I guess every character flaw known to man exists in children to one degree or another; so I think it is up to parents to figure out which are particular strongholds for your children and help them to overcome them.

Some that immediately come to mind that can persist into adulthood (IMO) are: selfishness, lack of empathy and the ability to say "I was wrong" or "I am sorry." I think all of these need to be taught early on my parents and reinforced until children "get them."

I feel it's especially important for my children to learn to say "I am sorry," and then for the other child (or parent) to say "I forgive you." I think an inability to do so, is definitely something that would worsen in adulthood.

I know many adults (including many in my extended family) who seem to be simply incapable of uttering these words and their relationships suffer as a result.

Bigotry, selfishness, materialism, lying, hatred, etc.
It's up to us as parents to instill good manners in our children,
and keep at them, so that will grow up with faith, love and
harmony towards their fellow man.
