I like the idea of a character being, well, "lost" when they return to civilization, but the writers sure have alot of explaining to do. Who was in that casket that would cause Jack to attempt suicide? Juliette perhaps?

To Sara: Jack also told that head surgeon something like "go upstairs and get my father who I bet is drunker than I am." So it was more than just what he told the pharmacist. Of course, he may have been delusional at that point from mixing oxycodone and alcohol.

good question. i'm quite sure jack was lying to the pharmacist, but what about his comment to the new doctor about 'go upstairs and find my father..if i'm drunker than he is you can fire me'.?

Some friends and I were thinking that maybe it was Locke or Ben in the casket since, when the priest asked "friend or family", Jack said 'neither'.
And when Jack asked Kate about it at the end she said, "why would I go to the funeral?".

Who knows how Jack's father could be alive? I mean, there are so many speculations about what is future, past, present, dream, subconscious, etc...and how it all somehow fits together.

I love this show, but it's driving me crazy! ;-)

I think maybe they are in an alternate future in the flash back, showing what would of happened if they got off the island right away and in which Jack's father is alive? Or maybe he is just delirious..I can't wait to find out!!I really want to know who's in the casket too..I almost think it's Ben, or Locke?

Son isn't in the casket..EVERYONE would have been there for her funeral. It is someone that no one cared for..

I think is was just a smart *** remark in a way to damage his fathers reputation. Kinda like "You think I'm drunk, you should have seen my father who was always trashed" kinda thing. It wasn't meant to be literal.

I think it's Locke in the casket. Jack told the funeral director that he wasn't friend or family of the deceased, he would have at least been a friend if it was Juliet, but Locke was someone on a different level but still not friend or family..

Sun is the one in the casket, she was destined to die after getting pregnant on the island. And the time clues, like Jack flying to many random places and his crazy beard hint at it being around 9 months from the rescue

That's my guess. Or maybe Benry? Who is both friend and family to Jack? Someone that Kate doesn't like for sure. Here's what I got from the funeral home and the very end. Jack came back from the island (along with everyone else?)and married Kate and then she left him for Sawyer the same way that Jack's first wife (forgot her name) left him...

He is dead.

Notice the 'wtf' look on the doctors face as Jack mentions his father. and the reaction Jack had when the pharmacist wanted to verify the prescription.

I think the casket is noone we've met yet. It is too short for it to be any adult on the island. It is also too short to be Walts casket.

I'm pretty sure he was just lying to the pharmacy lady... in desperation... I'm guessing the father is still dead.

It's been and hour, and i'm still trying to figure out WHO was in that casket!!

Ah, I love when LOST makes my brain hurt.
There's good television for you. =)

Yea he was on meds and I assumed he was just delirious. That other Dr. looked at him wierd when he mentioned his father.

but when asked "are you a friend? family?" he said neither. I would think that if it were Juliette, he would have said that he was her friend!
and yeah, "get my father down here..." was that just exaggeration? drunken ranting?
