Looking at various answers, I would like to add as follows: The problem is on the desktop. With the same settings of LAN, etc, I can access internet only from my laptop. Secondly, the status of the LAN card on the desktop shows tha 'the devise is functioning properly'. The router can have only one connection either from the desktop or from the laptop. When I try to connect from the desktop, with the same settings as the laptop, I get the message that 'remote coomputer does not respond'. But when I connect from the laptop, there is no problem. So now the problem is not of getting the "LAN cable is unplugged" message; but of not being able to connect to internet from desktop. Please advise.

this refers to the physical connection improperly connected. There are 3 possible causes:

1. The modem / Router is damaged. (This is unlikely your problem)

2. You network cable is damaged or you used a straight cable. (Try using your cable to another computer)

3. You LAN card is damaged or not installed properly. (Try connecting to another computer using your LAN)

Hope this helps you out.

Possible Resons:

1. Check your system network port and the cable is properly plugged in and lights are blinking.

2. Check the other end of cable connected to the network plug.

3. Check the router status. Whether the router is down / rebooted / power failure.

No other reason could cause this error.

Check and update me please'

Connections are apparently NOT ok. Make sure the cable is securely plugged in both to the back of your PC and to the router. Make sure the router is ON and working properly.

I occasionally get this "generic" message on my upstairs PC which is a distance from the incoming cable, on a wireless connection, which is low. I right-click on the icon on the system tray and click "repair."

are you or are you not on the internet.
If you are on the internet it means that there is more than one network device on your computer and it has its warning set to inform you when it is not connected.
You can go into the controls and uncheck that.
If you are not on the internet ( then how are you posting help messages) then it means you have no internet connection.

if you're connected, and all's working like you want (wi-fi perhaps?), then go to 'connections' and find the 'LAN' icon; go to 'properties' and uncheck the box about 'notify when connection has limited or no connection' & end the madness.

Do you have a NIC that is "enabled" but does not have a cable plugged into it?
