22(base 8) devided by 3 (base 8)

Instead of converting it to base 10...i want to do it directly in base 8. How can i do that?

It's crude, I know, but if you remember 'way back, that's the way you did it at frist in base 10, too.

They only way I know of is to THINK octal.

There is no decimal "secret" that proves that 3 goes into 22 seven times with a remainder of 1. You simply have to know your multiplication tables to do that division.

So, thinking octal, you would simply know that 3 goes into 22 six times with a remainder of 0. Just like you would know that 4 plus 4 is 10.
