does upgradeing cpu also require changing heatsink and fan?
thats all i want to know since tomorrow I'm upgrading my CPU.
Or just keep the OEM heatsink and fan which are in perfect working condition?
P.S
I do have a spare heatsink along with fan. "HYPER48 cooler master" which i always can install on my pc... but my only concern is that the heatsink is for P4(same socket though). It does not specifically say on the box or in users manual that it supports core 2 duo or pentium D which I currently have on my PC.
Thank's

Your current Pentium D is at least a 95 watter and Core2 Duo is just a 65 watter. Your current OEM HSF and your Hyper 48 will definitely work on your C2D upgrade.

No! As long as the heatsink covers the CPU completely and makes full contact with your CPU, the heatsink will carry out its purpose. If you heatsink has a square rise on the bottom that is not as large or larger then your CPU get a different Heatsink that does cover the CPU entirely.

You want to make sure you clean off the heatsink of old grease. Clean off the CPU then put a drop of new heatsink grease on the CPU and spread it so it is a thin layer.

You can keep the same heatsink and fan. I've never done it myself, but I hear that taking it all apart can be tough, so try not to damage anything (like the motherboard) when you're doing that.

it really depends you don't have to change out your cpu fan it optional. You can reuse the cpu fan or you can buy an aftermarket fan that can cool better. I would just use the same fan that came with the cpu. Yeah just use the same cpu fan to be safe.
