I'm a music therapy major and I was wondering if anybody out there has any good therapy sessions they would be willing to share. It can be for any population. Thanks! :)

I tried to get my daughter to go into music therapy but she is more interested in performance! I am an older musician and am very interested in the field. Our family band used to play MPTF gigs at a local "rest home" for older people. The nurses would always come up to us afterwards and tell us about their patients who wouldn't or couldn't respond to anything all month but they were responding to our music-- mostly New Orleans jazz. One guy was diagnosed as paralyzed and could not move any of his limbs, but the nurses observed him wiggling his big toe in time to the music. That brought tears to everyone's eyes! Many times, a supposed autistic person would recognize a song and get up and dance--by themselves or with someone else.

soft instrumentals, especially piano or guitar, bring my tears on in a gentle way, encouraging me to cleanse unresolved wounds.
indian tribal music grounds me spiritually and connects me to God more.
new age music, especially with nature sounds, are meditative for me. they make me feel light and airy, like an angel in flight.
soft rock, like james taylor, joan baez, carly simon, joni mitchell, bring me back to focussing on who i am and what music I like, not what's popular.
the song, 'i am the the eye in the sky looking at you. i can read your mind...' reminds me of a friend who died many years ago. i imagine that he's the one singing to me. reminds me of my belief in reincarnation. makes me feel loved and watched over.
bird sounds and crickets put me to sleep.
fleetwood mac and linda rondstad makes me want to sing along loudly and energizes me.

is this kind of what you were looking for?
