Yes, you can play DVD-ROMs on a DVD-R/RW drive.

DVD-R stands for DVD-Recordable. DVD-RW stands for DVD-ReWritable. These are special DVD disks that allow you to record data files onto them. Therefore a DVD-R/RW drive can use them both.

Dvd r means read, rw rewrite, meaning it can erase content from a dvd rw disk and put other info on it.
