Well I must say, what an episode. I, like many others, think that the ending was a 'flashforward'. But then I thought, if all of Jack's 'flashforwards' were after they got rescued, why would he tell that other doctor to get his father to see if he was drunker. If this was the future, Jack's father should already be dead. I'm probably just stupid and he didn't really mean it, but just my thoughts. Oh and does anyone else think the funeral was for Ben?

I thought the same thing, but then I started to think about the reaction that the new doctor had to Jack and the position of the new doctor. The new doctor who hadn't been there long was in a higher position than Jack was and also the look he gave Jack was a pity look. Pity that Jack was confused about where and when he was. Jack was obviously drunk and maybe even strung out on painkillers. When that happens people can forget (I would say people that have gone through extremes like the survivors of a plane crash and all of the drama on the island, ie fighting for your life), like your father being gone. Think about it, Jack had almost the same conversation with his father after his father had operated. "How much have you had to drink Dad?" and the new doctor said the same thing to Jack, "How much have you had to drink Jack?" Also think about how Jack forged his father's name thinking that people wouldn't realize that his father was dead and that he would just get his painkillers. "Don't bother" meant, my father is dead and won't be able to tell you he didn't write this prescription.

I don't think Ben will be leaving the island. I think the funeral was for Locke because he had no one when he was alive (before the crash) and it seems as if he won't have anyone after. No one seems to understand or like Locke anymore, but it could always change. My feeling is just that Ben will never leave the island or he will kill himself trying to stay on it.

I didn't understand that part either. Maybe since Jack was kind of losing it in the flashforwards, he just wasn't thinking clearly when he made that comment.

And, I agree that the funeral was for Ben. It makes sense that no one would come to his viewing since he has no one on the main land. Or, possibly Locke but I'm betting that Locke finds a way to stay on the island.

If the funeral was for Ben why would Jack be so upset about it? After he read the paper he was going to jump off the bridge. And who did he call when he said that he just found out? I personally think that the funeral was for Juliet also, Ben would never leave the island voluntarily.

To answer your question, it was a flashfoward. When he said get my father and see whos drunker, he means that his fathers dead from being intoxicated to death, and that he isnt. The funeral i believe is for Juliet. But our choices lay thin. Its either Juliet or Ben. Kate doesnt like either, and Jack doesnt like ben that much, so it much be Juliet. Next season will answer that though, as well as how they got off the island. It is a flashfoward also because at the end , if you werent watching, jack is begging Kate to go back to the island.! ZOMG! SO FLLIPPING INTENSE!

I thought about that too (Jack making reference to his Dad).. but that doesn't necessarily mean he's still alive... because when the nurse went to call to confirm the prescription, Jack told her that his Dad was out of town- he *might* have been flat out lieing, or maybe his Dad was in Australia at that point... Or, he might have just said it, knowing the nurse would never get ahold of him because he's dead, -or- he might have been trying to throw her off the trail of a forged prescription ... it's crazy how many directions you can really take it. (I guess that's the beauty of the whole show.)

I don't know whose in the coffin ... Jack said "neither" when the funeral man asked him if he was "Friend or Family", so it could be any number of people. Maybe it's Kate's step father? Maybe Jack somehow was tied to Kate before the plane crash and helped her blow up her step father's house and now they have to "go back" and cover up some evidence?! *gets a headache* Wait, wait.. maybe Locke's Dad is in the coffin ... lol

Maybe Jack used his real father's prescription pad to get the pills, but was referring to his step father when he was yelling at the other doctor in the hospital. But his step father being a drunk, too, would be a bit of a coincidence. I think this was just Jack imagining what life would be like when he got home. If this was a true flash forward, wouldn't Kate be in prison? Did Kate ever tell him that she is a fugitive?

Maybe it was Juliet's funeral. That could be why Kate said "Why would I go to that funeral?" But then again, wouldn't Juliet's sister go to her funeral? Again, I think this is just Jack's imagination. I think he's afraid he's gonna turn out to be just like his father.

My husband and i said the exact same thing, that the funeral had to be for Ben. Who else's funeral would Kate hate so much that she wouldn't go to. And everyone hated Ben, so that would explain why no one went to the funeral.
You make an excellent point about the flash forward, we did not catch that!!

I did not think it was a flash forward until Kate showed up. I could never figure out who the funeral was for. I figured it was in the past because he was referring to his dad. I think I have more questions now then before...bummer. Ben is a very good guess!!

wow I never even thought about his dad being dead! He couldn't write a prescription if he's dead! I thought they said "she" for the funeral. I hope it's not Claire of Jun. But if Jack had that long beard and all those newspapers, he had to be back awhile....hmmm

I thought the funeral might be Sawyer's (heaven forbid because I LOVE him). Unfortunately, it kind of makes sense since he doesn't really have anybody because his parents are dead. Then again, Kate said she had to get back to "him", so maybe that's Sawyer (but she doesn't deserve him).
