The funeral must have been Ben's because Kate was offended at the thought of going. There was no one else there.

He might have referred to Sawyer. But that is the obvious answer. He could also refer to a child, since most likely Kate is pregnant given the high male fertility rate on the island. Her ending up with Sawyer is a little too trite. I think Sawyer might return to his life of crime since in the past few episodes he has killed two people. I think this will affect the character. I tried to read the newpaper article and it looked like the name was Kwan, meaning Sun or jIn. I'm not sure who it was since no one showed up for the funeral. If it was Juliet, her sister and nephew would have showed up. Also, Jack was very upset about the death. Locke perhaps? I don't think Locke would ever leave the island unless he was forced to. Perhaps they weren't meant to leave the island because all of their lives were ruined once they returned home. That's my guess judging by the way Jack's life has destructed.

I think the finale was great (aside from Charlie's death...I mean, I was fine with him sacrificing himself - if it was necessary...)
There is a lot in this show that deals with time directly and indirectly, from the format of the show itself, to Desmond's flashes of the 'future' I think 'the island' is trying to correct the flow of time. Perhaps at some point time was split, and there are now different timelines.
The island, or perhaps even Jacob, is trying to influence events in the world, bringing this particular group of people to the island, with the intent that they will somehow set things right again. It's all about balance of energy, which is something reflected in the show; even the dharma initiative logos are based on ba-gua mirrors . (a part of feng shui, dealing with the correct arrangement of physical objects, living and unliving, corresponding to the magnetic pull of the earth, in order to correct the flow of 'energies', including time)
I think the funeral is just one additional reason Jack knows they should have never left the island. Perhaps the second he left, he has been feeling mis-aligned, like nothing will ever quite be 'right' until time is corrected, and the island will always be pulling at him to come back, and all the pain killers and alcohol in the world wont let him escape from that pull...

I think the funeral is for Michael. He changed his name after returning to the US because Naomi said they found the wreckage of the flight and all survivors were dead. Rather than try to explain why he was the only survivor he changed his name. This makes a little sense since Michael is from New York before being on the plane, and the funeral does appear to be in a black neighborhood. The question is why would it be news in a LA paper, and if he died in NY would Jack really drive across the country?

I think it may have been Naomi and the reason no-one wanted to Know was because she betrayed them which they would have found out through Des and the reason jack was upset was because it was because of her they were rescued and no-one is thankin him for it because they all now know it was the wrong deccision which is what Ben said and that is how/ why some of them will return to the island for season 4
ok i think i just about made that understandable
ohh and i dont beleive it was micheal because if he had got home from the island then so would have Walt which we saw was still on the island and only Lock saw him and i think they(the rescued) didnt see him again after he shot naomi so no-one would have known they were still there to save

It probably wasn't Ben. What would be the point?
Also Jack said he would kill Ben later on so that Ben could see he had failed.
Someone close to Jack and the rest of the group like John, Sayid, or Sawyer.
Kate also mentioned "He's probably going to wonder where I've been" right at the end so maybe she ended up staying with Sawyer?

I say it was Ben's. He failed the mission to keep them on the Island and so he had to die. Locke is the new boss on the Island now. Jack was supposed to stay there because he's a doctor and he and Juliette were meant to solve the problem of pregnant women dying on the Island. If they don't solve it there it's going to start happening in the real world.
Who the heck knows really, but it's fun to speculate! Excellent finale! Great show.

My first guess was Sawyer, and then maybe Ben or Locke. BUT, if you think about it, the funeral home was in a black neighborhood. Obviously there's a lot we're going to find out in the next three years. Maybe it was Michael or someone like that . . . someone who had the chance to help them and didn't.
But I honestly don't even have a guess any more.

Ok...most people think that it was Ben's funeral and Sawyer was still with Kate. But this is Lost....so, how about this. Kate ended up being enthralled with Ben and they are now a couple. He seems to know things...that's why she was concerned about getting back to him. Sawyer was in the casket...as he had no friends and was poor, it makes sense noone showed up and that it was in a poor community. Thoughts..L...O...S...T..

The finale was awesome! I'm going to watch it again to see if I missed anything....
The casket was just irritating to not know whose it was! It seemed short to be an adults, but I don't know what kid it would be. Whoever it was it was someone that both he and Kate knew because he asked if she was going to go. It was someone to get him upset enough to cry, and also a person that nobody else really liked because nobody went.

It clearly says man found dead, and the name begins with a j, he killed himself, he died in NY in some loft aptartment.
So, J's that we know that is a man kind of limits it. John is the only one I can think of, besides Jack, but obviously it wasn't him. This leads me to believe it's someone we haven't met yet. Or possible someones lying about their name, which is always possible!
