More people vote for American Idol than they do the president.
It's sad....I admit, I am addicted to the show, but I never call in and vote.
I don't vote for the president either. Just think though:
If all of those American Idol votes went to the presidential elections, maybe we wouldn't have a jerk like Bush running the country.

First, it's not "a nation" that prints "American Idol" results on the front page of the newspaper, it's newspaper publishers. You could argue there's something wrong with them, but let's keep in mind a few things: what in our current popular culture attracts as much attention and discussion as "American Idol?" Did the New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, etc. put nothing else on the front page? And finally, is it not a good thing if John Q. Citizen, after reading the "Idol" results, notices the A-section actually has some other news worth reading?

Yes, newspapers ought to tell you what you should know, not just what you want to know. And I'd be worried if every major paper exclusively made pop-culture fluff front page news every day. But enough of them don't, so I'm not sweating too much over "American Idol."

It has captivated Americans. Posting what most American's can relate to in the 'right here and now' on the front page is a HUGE seller for the printing companies. American Idol is easier on the eyes and probably ten times easier for half the nation to understand over the truly important impacting stories. Most people would prefer to watch Amercian Idol than the news. Not saying it's right but it's true. And just like every American, we all want to make more of the almighty dollar. To post what America will read, increases the number of papers bought....money and hopefully an added revenue generator for the printing company. It's all about the "MONEY".

a lot. in mine the news about the british sailors by iran an their treatment made frontpage news. later the iraq war dominatedt he front pages of my news paper as well as items on murders and muslims how ever silly the items may be. i think the BBC News has much to offer if you want a better source switch to the internet BBC News also i think it is time the public protested the quality of news and coverage given to celebrities i think some signs need to be made and people should do if the news is not changed after the news papers are asked to change them. also ask your local paper to write article criticising this and then they could write better ones to prove this point. if not protest the quality stand outside news places with signs the works yes i am seriousi kid you to long have we suffered the scource of celebriocrity

Entertainment rules
Entertainers get paid millions and teachers, firemen, etc have to threaten strike to get a little raise
I guess we need entertainment to provide escape from the fact we don't have everything that we want
we hope to find it else where and through other people, like the amateurs from idol

probably the same thing that is wrong with a country where more people vote for idol then in political elections...sad, huh? but i can't tell ya' why-maybe because the vast majority of peope in America spend way to much time watching reality TV then they do thinking about more important global issues-consumption,consumption, consumption...oy...i still have hope...
