I have a dell lattitude d510, had it since dec 2005. Its not charging. And oftentimes it says 45 mins left but it in fact shuts down in 20 mins. This is so frustrating. Do i need to change batteries or is there anything else i can do to improve its power?

My lappy just doesn't seem to acknowledge the presence of electricity flowing into it! It's plugged in and the charger says that there's electricity but my lappy simply isn't receiving the charge!

If I can just repair this, what can I do and how much would it cost? If indeed I need to get a new battery, how much would it cost? Just to compare.

you need a new battery, you should check to see if your old one was involved in the big recall and you may end up with a new one for free. the d510 is on the list.

It sounds like the battery is gone (won't hold a charge anymore). The biggest thing that'll kill a laptop battery's ability to charge is improper charging (not charging the battery to a full 100% everytime you need to charge it). I'm very guilty of that (I'll let my laptop batteries charge to maybe 60 or 70% then I'll yank the cord). Laptop batteries hate that. Getting a new battery would be the best option.

Weak battery. It is NOT an ac adapter or mb issue. Batteries are only expected to last a yer, but if used wisely can be srtetched to two or three years just like a cell phone battery.

Your battery may be kaput! Could be your charger also. Make sure that the charger is working correctly. You may be able to replace the battery by contacting Dell and seeing if they can supply you with a replacement battery.

I work on computers for a living and I always encounter this problem. Unfortanetly you need a new battery so it can hold its charge longer. There is nothing else you can really do. Battery will die faster the more you do on your laptop.

Chuck the battery out and just plug the power cord into it and connect it to a wall and use it like a desktop computer.
