Can someone name me a good anime movie, preferably one like Akira (lots of action!)?

I would say the original Ghost in the Shell movie , Ninja Scroll and Wicked City.
The Cowboy Bebop TV series is anime's "best of the best", but the CB movie wasn't quite as good. Grab the original sessions (6 DVDs I think)- those are awesome.
If you like crazy humor combined with action, try Project A-Ko.

Hmmm..my best bets are:
Ghost in the Shell = its cyberpunk like Akira, and the producers of akira also made this great movie. This was directed by Mamoru Oshii, a famed anime Director. Action packed plus a lot more. Very deep too.
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust = (from the director of Wicked City and Ninja Scroll <
Street Fighter Alpha (movie) = this anime adaptation of the popular fighting game is action packed and beautifully animated. This movie was created for the 10th year anniversary of street fighter.
Street Fighter II the animated movie = nope not the crappy tv version, the animated movie is still praised as action packed per sequence.
Yu Yu Hakusho: Battle of Meikai movie = nice action movie from the great tourney styled tv series.
Fatal Fury movie: Armor of Mars = lots of action here.. from mostly Fatal Fury video game characters.
Appleseed: Movie = though its mostly a cgi movie. It still kicks ^_^

I've seen Akira three times, but the plot is still kind of difficult to explain. As for genre, it'd be action/ sci fi. It reminded me of The Matrix.

Cowboy Bebop and Vampire hunter D are good action anime movies.Also try Dragonball z movies(if you like lot of action)

The Naruto and Bleach movies are good. Also the Inuyasha Movies are choice
