There are far right and moderate republicans. The far right ones are always pushing the moderates to do their bidding much like the far left liberals are always pushing the democrats to do theirs. Abraham Lincoln was very much a moderate republican. He did not want to abolish slavery in the states where it already existed, he wanted to prevent it's spread into new territory. So, even though he felt slavery was morally wrong he did not want to take the right away for each state to choose. Whatever, you will never get 2 people to agree completely on how to do anything. I think todays republicans are actually much more like the Democrats used to be before the left wingers took over the party. Religion has always been a major factor in politics but the smartest ones learned that it is better to not be too far left or too far right. Our country was founded on Christian principles. The democrats have become far too communistic and seems like they want to micromanage all of us. SCARY!!!

Thomas Jefferson was a Democratic-Republcian which eventually became the Deomcratic party, not the Republican party.
The present day Republican party was started largely from the Whigs and Northern Democrats as the anti-slavery party.
So the answer to your question. No.

Lincoln was "slipped a part about God in the Gettysburg address". What the hell does that mean? Is that like slipping someone a mickey? Are you trying to imply that Lincoln was not a religious person? If so, you yourself need to do some more studying. He was a very spiritual person, the Gettysburg address was not the first or last time he spoke of God. Geesh!

Back up.
Our federal republic was what Jefferson wanted.
No organized religion controls the government. Our founding fathers had considerable faith in God but (thanks to Benjamin Franklin) saw fit to allow us to believe as we see wish without interference from government.
Jefferson got his wish and Conservatives like me agree with Jefferson on most points.
The Federalist Papers are a critical component influencing the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Everyone should study them.
Sending troops overseas was not a part of the reality of the times in which he lived. I believe he would have changed his mind somewhere along the path of history.
You libs with your socialist agenda would have been abhorrent to both Jefferson and Lincoln.

I'm afraid you are a product of the public school system and have been led astray.Thomas Jefferson was a Bible scholar. He read the Bible daily. He read it in English Greek, Latin and French. It was Jefferson's view during his whole public life that the government should not interfere with religion. The atheists and ACLU would have us believe the separation of church and state is to protect us from religion when it was clearly to protect the freedom of religion.Until his presidency all presidential papers ended with "In the year of our Lord" . When he became president he changed that to " In the year of our Lord Christ". This from a man whom we are taught to be anti- Christian. You've been lied to.The real Thomas Jefferson is the ACLU's worse nightmare. If you want to know the truth read the booklet...What They Believed by D. James Kennedy. He has many books on similar subjects. God bless.

perhaps he study FDR's marketing campaign speeches rather of regarded at what FDR easily did as President. based on the '32 marketing campaign, one might have considered FDR the conservative and Hoover the liberal. in the process the '32 election marketing campaign, FDR heavily criticized Hoover's plans for coping with the melancholy, asserting the government might could desire to spend too plenty, became interfering in the financial equipment too plenty, and so on. as quickly as elected, he in fact applied an identical plan Hoover had with some refinements consistent with which aspects of Hoover's plan have been easily working and that have been no longer. FDR became very pragmatic, the two in the words that got here out of his mouth and in his rather regulations. although worked could desire to be the wonderful coverage. In an age with television, the internet, information teach analysts, and actuality verify companies, FDR might have had a plenty harder time campaigning. nevertheless, a useful approach as quickly as you're elected President is mostly a solid thought and FDR did an extremely solid pastime responding to the aggravating circumstances of his time.

Here's the deal. Even though Jefferson was identified as a republican, he was actually a libertarian. He wanted government out of his life and that is what he fought for. What we have in republicans now are people who talk one thing and do another. They say smaller government, but look at federal spending. They are starting to look like democrats because all they want to do is line their pockets.
If you want to find someone who is trying to work on reducing the size of government. Go to Rep. Jeff Flake's web site.

Ron Paul is what a true conservative is. Yes, todays socalled conservative republicans are a laughing stock. They have a dictator as a leader & consider us their subjects, when the politicians are suppose to be serving the people. Please check out Ron Paul on youtube, and his views. He has been considered a threat to his own party because of his for the people attitude instead of big government. Dr. Paul is what this country needs, not Hellary or Guiliani , they have been bought & paid for. Mitt is a joke. period. Please research Dr. Ron Paul. This country is headed for hell in a handbasket if the people don't WAKE UP!
