Insurance is a MUST. If you were to get in an accident (which happens more often than you'd think), you'd have to pay the expenses out of pocket, which could easily cost you thousands upon thousands of dollars, just for the other party alone. Students can lower their rates by being on a parents policy, driving a "safer" car as opposed to a sporty coupe-type vehicle, and keeping their grades up. Many companies reward students by lowering their rates when they maintain a specified GPA.

Having insurance protects you if you have an accident: it can pay for your medical expenses if you are injured in a car accident; it can pay to repair your car if it is damaged in a car accident; it can replace your car if it is stolen; it can replace your windshield if a rock flies up and cracks your front windshield; it can pay a claim to the other driver if they sue you because they were injured in a car accident that you caused; it can pay to tow your car if you break down and pay to provide you a rental car if you need transportation while your car is being fixed or repaired; it can also pay to replace your radio if it is stolen out of your car; it can pay to replace your car if it catches fire and burns up; it can pay your medical expenses and all your passenger's medical expenses if the other driver does not have auto insurance! Insurance cost pennies on the dollar when you consider what these things would really cost you if you had to pay for them.

3 things to reduce your cost: 1) pass drivers education, 2) be an Honor Roll Student, 3) go 3 years with NO tickets or accidents, 4) get married, 5) once you turn age 25, 6) add a renters policy or homeowners policy to the same company that has your auto policy and you will get 10% off your auto policy premium. Any of the above will reduce your auto premium and all of the above will reduce it even more!

Go with an auto insurance Company rated by A.M. Best of at least an "A-" in claims paying ability. Stick with a name brand company such as Progressive, Geico, Allstate, StateFarm, Nationwide, Safeco, Aetna, Travelers, Auto Owners, Alfa, MetLife, Liberty Mutual.

Good luck!

it's important for you to have insurance becuase if you get caught with out it before you're 18 they can take away your liscense till you turn 18
plus if you hit someone your parents would pick up the tab for the other persons bill
here's 3 ways
1 don't get a red or black car or a coupe because they concider it a sports car and charge you more
2 some types of insurance have programs for teen drivers to reduce bills if you don't get tickets got thru the course ect
3 get liability only if you can

Take a defensive drivers course.

Insurance protects you if you should hit another vehicle. And it's illegal to drive without it.
