I've been using laptops since 1995 and I can't say NO laptops have problems---they all do, be it a minor problem or major failure. However, as a hobby I recondition laptops and resell them on CL and I've had the least amount of problems with Dell laptops with Gateway running a close second, and Sony in 3rd place. Actually its the manufacturers support you buy when you get a laptop and I've found Dell's online support the best of all. Stay away from the cheaper no-name or bargain laptop---there probably isn't any, or poor, customer support for it. Hope this helps your decision to buy a laptop.

It relies upon, in case you do no longer comprehend a lot approximately computers, then i opt to propose buying a Macbook. they are high priced, yet extra stable. i for my area do no longer use Apple product because of the fact they are very overpriced, yet because of the fact which you want some thing which would be stable for college, i might propose one. till, you're pc savvy, wherein case, i might propose a mid-intense end pc from HP, Dell, or Acer. do no longer purchase an get admission to point pc from any type, they are going to in basic terms final you a year or 2 before they grow to be old and might harm a lot faster.

Toshiba is good
Dell is decent
Sony is good
Gateway, HP, Acer, Everex, Averatec and Compaq to name a little selection are the lower end to be honest.
If I had to choose one I'd go with Toshiba.
