Dwarf gourami will get along ok with most other fish near it's size that aren't overly aggressive or very very shy. Good choices would include larger tetras such as bleeding heart or congos. Also mollies and swordtails make good tank mates for dwarf gourami. Several different barbs are good such as gold and checkerboard. Cory cat fish are also high on the list since they spend planty of time on the bottom while the dwarf gourami will spend much time on the top of the water.

Kissing gourami are a bit larger and a bit more aggressive. I would select fish like angels, rainbow fish, giant danios and other medium sized or quick fish for tankmates for kissing gourami.

Kissing Gourami Tank Mates

The Kissing Gouramis should not be kept in a 10 gallon. The absolute minimum would be 30 gallons for them, most people wouldn't put them in anything smaller than a 55 gallon. Dwarf Gouramis could work. It would be very tight, but it could work. Some people list the minimum tank size at 10, but most people consider 15 to be the minimum tank size for them. They will be particularly territorial if kept in a tank as small as 10 gallons, so you have to be very careful what you put with them in a tank that small. The Sparkling Gourami is a great deal smaller and less territorial than the Dwarf Gourami, and you could easily fit a trio of 2 females and 1 male in a 10 gallon. These are also commonly available.

You have listed 2 types of gouramis. The Dwarf Gourami can go in a community tank with medium fish. They like to eat plants and hide in them too.
The Kissing Gourami grows large-up to 7" and is a troublemaker. The kissing behavior is shown as an act of aggression.
The Kissing Gourami does well with Opaline, Blue, Platinum or any of the other large Gouramis.
Tiger Barbs as well as any other kind of barb would be good companions as well. Kissing Gouramis like to eat plants and algae off the side of the glass.

The Kissing Gourami is best combined with other medium to large labyrinth fish and other peaceful larger fish. Rarely this species may bully smaller fish but if hungry, the Kissing Gourami may suck at the scales of large, slow-moving fish.

They can be kept singly or in a group. If keeping in a group, they should be about the same size to stop the larger fish picking on the smaller ones. They are ideal for the smaller to mid-sized Central American Cichlid tank or robust South American tank.

Do not keep with African Cichlids.
