Don't want to use moth balls,and I have a lot of garder snakes in my yard and maybe a snake pit under the house.

Why would you want to get rid of them? They are harmles they dont stink(unless you pick them up) and they will stay away from you. But if you need to get rid of them for what ever reason. Try finding out why they are there. Do you have a good food source for them or are you near a den? If your near a den good luck your best bet would be to move. Garter snakes usually eat earth worms and slugs larger ones eat frogs, fish, and small mamals. try elimaniting there food source. Or you could just enjoy them and remember there eating more annoying animals around your home.

Moth balls will kill everything else but the snakes seeing as there are NO snake repellents that work, so don't waste your time. Keep the grass short & don't let brush or debris build up. If there's no food or shelter, they'll leave all by themselves.

Hello..best thing to do is learn to live with them, there's nothing that will get rid of them all & often the cure is more deadly then the snakes, specially poisions like moth balls, etc that do nothing but endanger other life, kids & pets ...they are not dangerous & very good, natural pest patrol..etc. Lucky U, wouldn't mind having your problem ..LOL !! Why not use the moth balls, just put them in a glass jar with a metal lid with tiny holes poked it in and lay jar on side. Works for skunks and cats.

never heard of moth balls for snakes, they keep cats away but try a blow up owl or they do have snake pellets, not sure how good they work
