These are prescription drugs. The question does not belong in alternative medicine. Let's assume here that they are prescribed for appropriate reasons after careful evaluation of the patient.

Both Adderal and Ritalin are used as adjunctive treatment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Basically they help the affected person sustain a focus of attention. Ideally, a young student with ADHD should get further assistance, but that is often not the case.

Ritalin is rapidly excreted from the body, so it often has to be administered during school hours. A long acting form is available.

Adderal is excreted more slowly, so it only has to be given once a day in most cases. I personally think it is more effective than Ritalin, but that is just opinion. I think it is also more subject to abuse.

Both are dangerous drugs with "Black Box warnings" from the FDA. Neither treats or cures the cause of problems. It may be better to look for a doctor that works with the patient to find and fix the CAUSE of symptoms, rather than masking the symptoms with these dangerous drugs.

Best wishes and good luck.
