Everyone is born with a clean slate - good. I agree with you it is Nurture over Nature. The way a person is brought up will affect them the rest of their life, I believe a person can change from evil to good if they chose to do so.

I agree with flieder, humans are born good. But every individual is born with an ego, and desires for power/ wealth/ fame. A person becomes bad because of his own self. Everyone has a tendency towards pride, greed, envy, wrath, etc,. but good people have it under control while people who let those feeelings dwell in them become corrupted. Those feelings within the person are the root cause of his bad actions and intentions. The society around him can arouse those tendencies in him. But in a good society and upbringing, those tendencies are kept guarded, and a person stays pure as he was born (i know this seems non-existent!). So yeah, I think humans are intended to be born good - clean and pure from evil. Evil inside a person is only aroused later.

There are males born with a genetic defect, XYY chromosomes rather than XY, and they have shown a distinct propensity for criminal behavior, thus, it may well be that they are born, if not "evil", then with a inherent capability of becoming sociopathic. Such anomolies are not, however, comparable to the religious concept of "original sin", they are simply bilological accidents unrelated to true morality.

I don't agree that it is always the way they are brought up, I believe that has some to do with it. Take for example two children brought up the exact same way in the same household who were taught the same rules. They can be extreme opposites sometimes one good and one bad. I think it has to do with choices, and how much they have been held accountable for their actions, and sometimes just personalities. I don't think you are born evil or good I think your life experiences and choices make you that way. I have known some very good people who have had very bad parents, they just chose to make their lives better and to be better people.

It is logically a fallacy to argue that there is "one"
"true" god--such that he is that he is--always there with a difference and he sings because he sings because he sings. The songs of birds, the breath of wind. However, the absurd proposition presupposes an assumption,
which has and is not substantiated by evidence.
"Faith", as we know it is also untenable. Since it
too is based on several confabulated fallacies. The
same is accurate with respect to agnosticism and
atheism. It's not the case to say, that we do not
know one way or another, but it is also not the case
that we do not know that we do not know. The
ambiguity leaves us in a state of evidence, or the
absence thereof, because we cannot explain the
implacability of the universe, which leads us to
Existentialism Kierkegaard, Freddy Nietzsche(AKA,
hermit, whore monger and syphilitic near-do well),
Sartre, Camus and other agnostics, who wanted to
rationalize their hatred for the Stoics in way form or
fashion they could. Thus, they ruminated around and
hatched one of the most dangerous philosophies on
earth: the idea that man is essentially nothing pitted
against the implacability of the universe. If this is
so, then it also nothing to kill somebody, which as we
all know is nonsense. Rather than admit, that their
philosophy breaks down, they would rather proselytize
verisimilitude's of its vagary upon the world as being
the end all and be all of belief systems. The
evidence of the reality check on it is quite another matter. Religion: if it's organized, then pick your poison.

i think everyone was born pure. I would say "pure" other than "good" or "evil," because everyone changes by people around him/her that influence their behavior and thinking. That's why when little kids always stay in an alcoholic and smoking environment, those kids will 99.9% :) become an alcoholic or smoking when they grow up. Inversely, if they live with a big family, and in their society, where people have good manner and always give kids advices. Do you think they would become bad kids? How many percent chance?

To every man born is given two angels, and one is added when he prays. There is both good and evil at birth, that there may be two witnesses at judgment. The good must be nurtured and added to, amplified, or the yetzir ha'ra, the evil inclination will stand along with Satan, the adversary at our judgment. We are saved by grace through faith. Our Judge can also be our Advocate, and the Prosecution undone.

I totally agree with you. There is no good or bad before life or after it. Its people's deeds that count. One can always choose between two paths in life ...always...

Depending on your upbringing, you may choose the right path most of the time... and that is what makes you good...

We are born self centered. (That's why we cry when we need things even if it is inconvenient and why toddlers throw tantrums in public.)Our parents correct our behaviors as we grow older. We learn to want to be good

Sorry we are not all born good. According to the Bible (God's Word) ever since Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, sin entered the world. Prior to them doing that God had fellowship with them openly. After that they had to make sacrifices for their sins they committed. That is why Christ died on the cross to pay the price for the sins of the world. In order for us to have Christ's blood applied to our sins we have to ask Him to forgive us for our sins and make Him our Lord and Savior and repent. Because of the sins of one all are guilty(Adam) but because of the sacrifice of another (Christ) all can be found forgiven. When we accept Christ we know we can spend eternity in heaven with God but if we say no and reject God's gift (Christ) we would go to hell when we die. Your choice my friend, it is an eternal decision!
