With 428+ Bil. dollars and 3400+ lives could we have decreased our need of oil/or secured our borders better?

428 plus billion dollars spent and 3400+ U.S. lives lost in Iraq so far. If used here for technology advancement and security would we be safer and better prepared in this country?

We did not go to war in Iraq over oil or to secure our borders. We went to Iraq to reduce the threat of terrorism against our country. I feel safer knowing we are fighting the terrorist in Iraq instead of in America.
