Do you think that Gas prices being so high can ruin the economy? I haven't had to change my lifestyle yet. I still go to the movies, still have same budget for food, clothes, fixing up the house, but it is getting pretty close to having to redo my budget and my lifestyle which is going to affect shopping I'm sure. My friend has gotten laid off. She worked for a non-profit organization. I'm wondering where is it going to affect us first and how bad do you think the government will let us slip into a recession?

oh, and people buying new cars. You have to have money to buy new cars. How bad can it be if you go out and buy a new car that gets better gas milage? It won't save you that much money. They are just trying to drive the same amount and probably more because they think they are saving money.

it was worse in the 1970's and US pulled through.

Car purchasing effect is that when it is time to get a new car, you get a smaller one, or you replace a car earlier than you would otherwise.

The gas prices will bring ingenuity.

Corporations and individuals will do what capitalists do the best ... find efficiencies and new innovations. in the 1800-1900's we used whale oil and almost drove the poor whales to extinction. Well, Thomas Edison came along and innovated the light bulb.

We need to find a capitalistic (non-subsidized) way to deal with energy and transportation. The European's are using cars with 30-55 MPG ... we drive Hummers with 10-20 MPG. Brazil uses a fuel alternative run on surgar cane. "Corn" fuel is being manufactured and distributed as the USA alternative. Some perfer electric cars. As consumers we need to be talking with Corporations (NOT GOVERNMENT) and screaming for fuel efficiency.

We need to be doing this with our personal lives and small businesses. When we GET to purchase a new vehical ... we need to EXCEED the expectations of Pres. Bush and DEMAND we get 30-55 MPG. They're out there ... you just have to learn how to shop.

For efficiency, UPS is only taking "Right Turns" saving the company millions of dollars a year in saved gas.

Should we fail to be competitive in our salvation and worship the government to save us ... we're all doomed!!! We can save ourselves, and make a profit too!!!

Where there is a will there is a way, and a salvation.

Ask yourself this question.... "Why are big oil companies now seeing record profits (huge record profits) and continue to receive incredible tax breaks from the federal government ???" The answer is George Bush... Ol' George is an oil man looking after his own interests and I'm sure he is looking forward to lining his pockets with some of those profits... a little kickback or two when he leaves office... he'll probably call them consulting fees... And now Bush is threatening to veto a bill that would call for an investigation of big oil companies for price gouging... wake up and vote Democratic next election !!!
