I have spent lots of money trying to get it to stop. Wheel balancing, ball joints, alignment; U joints checked. I was told could be drive train(to check, put in neutral on road and see if still vibrates and it does, which means not drive train??). I was told the wheel balancing would show if tire out of round????. Could it possibly be motor mounts or maybe still the tires (wheels), even though I was told no? How do you check the motor mounts if they could be the cause. thanks for any help. I'm totally confused.

i own a shop, and if you want to check the engine mounts, put it in gear and give it a little gas with your foot on the brake, the engine will rise up a whole lot, also do this in reverse, one other thing though ,you can have a warped drive shaft in it,because even if your in neutral going down the road, the drive shaft still turns as much as if its in gear,i been through this with a few s-10,s before, and other vehicles, and putting it in neutral wont help rule out the drive shaft being bent, its going to be between the drive shaft or the engine mounts or even a transmission mount ,good luck with it hope this helps.

You need to answer if the vibration goes away or gets worse the faster you go. Vibrations in the drive train will usually show up at a certain speed and decrease at a lower speed. Putting the car in neutral at speed eliminates the motor mounts...I'm suspicious if you have a driveshaft that is bent or lost a weight...or even got something wrapped around it...but obviously they would have discovered that if they had the vehicle on a lift. Sounds to me like you just need to get everything a complete check over.
Tire balance issues always get worse as speed increases...drivetrain issues always have a "sweet spot" that comes and goes accordingly with speed.

Check the wheels again. Alignment, Tie rod ends, Rims for being bent, Do you have after market rims or not the oem rims? Some cars need hub centric rings(the rim doesn't center properly) if you put on a after market rim. Check the axles for excess play. Motor mounts ussually wont cause that. However that is possible. Check the rubber bushings and make sure they are not worn or old and cracked. Seeing that its a 97 im shooting that the mounts are probably ok.

What you'll be feeling is the organic vibration out of your engine. With new autos quite, the place each and every thing is particularly cramped (shoehorned) in the engine compartment, the engine has a tendency to transmit this is universal vibrations (harmonics) in the process the guidance assembly. In some autos it truly is on no account very plenty, yet others will "experience" like the engine is touching the guidance wheel (which, in a real experience, it truly is, through fact there are issues linked to the guidance rack) the considerable fact seems to be which you experience it at stops. meaning engine, as no longer the rest is rotating... if it truly is reported, or "thumping" as you first push on the gas, this is a motor mount that seperated.

Have someone sit in the truck with engine off while you are in front w/hood up. watching the engine, have them first start the engine. It should move only minimally not jump. Then have them place their foot on the brakes and put the vehicle in reverse and see if the engine jumps. same with other gears. motor mounts aren't very pricey themselves but watch the mechanics, they try to bite ya on labor.

engine mounts will not cause this. it sounds like you have a bad tire. You have gone through all the steps I would have but it still sounds like a bad tire. Pull the tires off and roll them across the driveway and see if they bounce. not much else that would cause this other than maybe bad suspension parts. could be bad shocks or struts.

a good question is if you had the u-joints replaced or just looked at. I had one that gave me fits, and when I decided to change the universals for gp, one cap was dry but tight, causing a vibration.

You probably lost the weight that balances your drive shaft. Look in your local phone book under "automotive" and find under car specialist.
