I am trying to make my own home web server/FTP. In order to do this I need to port forward on my router to my computer. To do this, I must go into the routers control panel. The only problem is, the default username and password doesn't work (and I haven't changed it...?). So I think I need to reset my router, but I already have it configured and everything. I wondered if it just reset the username and password and cleared all open ports but I have no clue. Just in case you need to know, I have a Netgear WGR614v6.

If you reset it, then it will be like it just came from the factory. So any set up of ports IP addresses etc will be lost.

The admin user ID and password will get reset to the factory defaults too.

Make sure that the ones that you are trying are the correct default ID/password. It would be a real drag to lose your set up and still not be able to do what you want because you were using the defualt user ID/password rather than the admin ID/password.

If you use the factory reset option then all the custom data you have entered into the settings will be lost. Including username and password [these will be defaulted to the factory settings, which are normally printed on the bottom of the router, often admin [for user] and password [as the password]. You will then be able to set up your customized preferences a new wifi password, wifi broadcast {SSID] channel, wifi encryption [WPA2 etc] etc. If the router/modem was supplied by your ISP then after reset it should configure itself for connecting to the internet. If you supplied your own device then you will have to manually enter the data, normally the email address you have with your ISP [as the username] and appropriate password.
