I don't know if I would call them "Keys" but they are helpful if you want to develop your understanding of the universe. My argument for this is that by experiencing a hallucinogenic state, you become aware of the fact that your senses are lying to you about what is actually happening around you. When you are no longer in a hallucinogenic state, the same fact remains that your senses are lying to you, but on a lesser scale. They lie to you so you can function; they patch the blind spot where your ocular nerves go towards the brain, they lie about visual sequential consistency, they lie about smells, etc.

In other words, they make you more able to realize you are a slave to your own senses and biases in how you filter and understand the world, which in turn gives you better perspective with which to understand the natural world.

They probably have fired off some unusual sequences of thoughts that have led to some new insight or 'inspirational' ways of looking at things.

But it's a lazy and possibly dangerous way to achieve something that can be constantly at the ready, if one invests time in training the mind.

Peace

They are great substances if you don't mind drug induced psychosis.

As they are altered states, they are substances which tamper with one's ability to perceive and one's connection to reality.
