I've had this problem with my daughter since she was born. For the entire first year of her life we had to go through watching her scream and cry because it hurt her so bad to use the restroom. At times her stool was so hard that it would break her skin and make her bleed. Doctors wouldn't say anything other than to give her prune juice, grape juice, karo syrup in milk, ect. Nothing ever worked. I got fed up because my daughter got to apoint where she started holding her poop in and would be miserable for days at a time and couldn't even sit down because her bottom hurt her so bad. I changed her doctor and he prescribed her this powder called MIRALAX, let me tell you this stuff works wonders. I give her 8 grams of the powder in either water or juice and ever since she's been taking it she's goes everyday and really soft. The first time I gave it to her was amazing. She went within hours and has never has a problem since. I do have to keep giving it to her until her body regulates itself but I would never even think about taking her off of it anytime soon. It's a lifesaver. Talk to your doctor about it but now they also sell it over the counter in a white and purple bottle. I give her half the dosage for adults which like I said is about 8 1/2 grams which is half a capful mixed with water or juice. It's perfectly safe for them and my doctor would never prescribe something that is bad. I now just buy it over the counter and it's the exact same stuff as the prescription. You can get it at any drug store such as Walgreens or CVS.

I have had this problem with my now 2 year old, she was colicky and gas a constipation come natural to her. First of alll if he won't drink prune juice, apple juice is great too, and more fruit and fiber rich foods. But I'm telling form experience try to stay away from enemas and things of that sort, his body will become dependent on them if you use them everytime he is constpated. another quick fix is to lay him on his back and move his legs like he is peddeling a bike, pushing into his tummy lightly. this gets the bowels moving, works like a charm. Also a teaspoon of light Karo Syrup(NOT CORN OR VEGETABLE OR OTHER) in his bottle or cup. This was directed by both my daughters pediatrition and 5 year old sons pediatrician from when he used to get constipated...it runs in the family!! Hope to have helped, good luck!

My baby of the same age used to get constipated pretty often, too. Here's what we did. We increased veggies & fiber in meals and snacks - this is best once the constipation has improved. To improve immediately what you can do is give prune juice once a day(baby brand or diluted: 3 oz juice, 3 oz water), grapes with at least one meal (thinly sliced and cut up to prevent choking), and stay far away from cheese, rice, and bananas.

My daughter did the same thing and we ended up having to give her enemas....wow, what a horrible experience! Apple juice, granola, fiber one cereal and bran muffins were suggested to us by the Dr. in the ER her first visit there. She refused to eat any of it and to this day doesn't like apple juice....it did not end well. Good luck

Fruit juice is what my peds office suggested for my child. Another nurse I spoke with suggested giving a high-fiber muffin for a snack also when my child was ready to eat those types of foods.

prune juice, Just remember when you were pregnant. What did they tell you to eat and drink to help.

Seriously no pills or suppositories. My pediatrician said he wont trust it even with his kids younger than 10 years old, yet alone a baby or toddler
