Nova would be a 1st name for a girl. Its Latin/Greek for "New". Also has scientific definition.

I think it will be a name that no one else has and that is not always good when you are a little kid. I know this guy and his name is Prairie and he has a sister named River. They absolutely hate their names. They had hippy parents from the 1960's and it was a mean thing to do to a kid. How about a different one? It doesn't need to be ordinary but with a name like Nova, I don't know if the kid would be male or female. The only way I would go for the name is if your last name was Scotia. Nova Scotia.
