With one vote per citizen and the canidate with the majority of votes declared the winner and would be President?

Would this not be a more effective and just system?

Why should one persons vote count more than anothers just because of the state they are in?

If they can create encriped secure banking systems on line they can do the same for voting.

Many states already use voting machines and there is no paper trail, so what's your arguement?

Since we can already prepare our taxes online, I'm sure it wont be long until we have a safe way to vote online.
It really makes more sense because candidates would be able to link videos and other files to their statements which they stand for.

I'm a computer engineer, and I don't think the Internet is secure enough. Even banks, who are fairly secure do still get hacked into regularly. Web sites such as the FBI, CIA, and other government websites are hacked into at a much higher rate than banks, I can only imagine how interested hackers would be in a national voting website.

This may sound funny, but I like that we actually have to go to a place to vote. By doing so it garantees that the people who do vote actaully care. If they care they are probably better educated on the issues and can make more informed descisions.

It may be time to change the electoral college, but it is part of the constitution and would require and anmendment to change. Amendments must be ratified the state legistlatures of with a 3/4 majority (in other world at least 38 out of 50 states). Since less populated states such as Wyoming, Idaho, Alaska etc, benefit from the electoral college by giving them more votes/population it is unlikely they would ratify a change like this. There are alot of small states, and it would only take 13 to block an amendment.

So.... whether you like the electoral college or not, I don't think it's going anywhere.

It could work and I agree that the majority popular vote should elect the president. The electoral college should be buried.

I do feel that the major problem is getting the people off their behind, turning off their TV for a half hour and go vote. Doing it via the internet would be quicker but not all have internet.

But then on a lighter side...
Maybe we need a designated time where all the TV stations stop broadcasting to let the people go vote. LOL...
Maybe voting from your TV remote like pay-per-view as most people do have TV's...just kidding.. LOL

The problem is trust. Few would trust such a system and the lack of a solid paper trail on ballots would lead a programmer to becomming president in no time. Maybe some day.

The other issue is popular vote. The big cities and states want it this way, but is thats not fair to the people of smaller states and is the reason why the electoral college was created.

the framers of the constitution did not totally trust the general population to make a wise choice so they set up the electoral college as a mid step to the presidency. the number of members sent to the college is each states number of representatives and senators combined. the members of the college are pledged to but do not have to vote for a specific candidate. in fact at times they have changed. to change this it would take a amendment to the constitution. do you really want to do that? i don't think i do.

No .... how do you control it. Who controls security. It could never work. If people are to lazy to get out and vote that's their problem.

There would be massive fraud. It would also be inconsistent with our status as a FEDERAL republic.
